Minimum Wage

2007 Federal Prevailing Wage changes for VocShop users

If you live in a state where the minimum wage is not already higher than the new federal minimum wage, this page is for you.

If you have rates where the prevailing wage is less than $5.85, you will need to adjust those on or before July 24, 2007.

If all your prevailing wage rates are higher than $5.85 adjustments are still required. The Department of Labor offers two techniques for this adjustment.

The first, which we strongly suggest is not good is, you could adjust all your prevailing wages by the percentage difference between 5.15 (the old rate) and 5.85 (the new rate).  The DOL states that they believe that “most” wage rates will be changing, and that this percentage based adjustment is fair.  In consultation with our labor-law consultant, we conclude that this will probably overstate almost all your wage rates.  Therefore, we strongly advocate option 2.

The second option is to immediately raise your prevailing wage rates which are below the minimum to the minimum and to perform new wage surveys for all your jobs.  The new wage surveys may not be performed before August 24, 2007, nor after September 23, 2007.

For those users running Gat 2, this adjustment is simple.  Simply go into each job title and change the prevailing wage rate, making a note of the source and date of the new rate in the notes area.  Then run “Update hourly ratings” and “Update unit pay rates” from the transaction menu.
For upgrade to GAT2 call Scott at 620 664 5609. Current hourly rates will apply if you are not on support and maintenance.

For those users running Gat1, we can assist with EITHER the percentage based increase or the “mass update of indusrates” increase.  Please call VocShop tech support before July 24 for details about how  to perform mass-updates of wage rates without typing in each task. Phone 785 272 5993. Current hourly rates will apply if you are not on support and maintenance.

Good luck with this, and as always remember that VocShop is here to serve you.
